CrazyBump is a program designed specifically to make quick, quality, variations of an image to be used as textures on 3D models. For Moviestorm, this means that you can take an image to be used as a Diffuse texture and, in under five minutes, have both a Normal and Specular texture saved into your model’s “Textures” folder.
The downside? CrazyBump is not cheap. Even though there is a free 30 day Demo, you’ll need to purchase one of three licenses if you choose to continue using it-
CrazyBump Educational (For students and teachers) $69.00
CrazyBump Personal (For non-commercial use) $99.00
CrazyBump Professional (For any use) $299.00
The software’s author stated that small/indie companies could use the Personal license and when I questioned him, said that, machinima creators could also use the Personal license even if you sold your film(s). Although, if you began making your living by creating machinima (using CrazyBump) then you’d need to upgrade to the Professional license. I have put the Modder’s Marketplace question to him but haven’t yet received a response.
